Click rate: 13.1% of searchers click a top-3 listing (First Page Sage, Google CTRs by ranking position, Sept 2026).

How it's calculated

map clicks = searches × share where you're top 3 × 13.1%
leads = map clicks × clicks that become a call or form
work = leads × close rate × average job

With your numbers: 1,000 × 25% × 13.1% = 33 clicks. × 30% = 9.8 leads. × 40% × $500 = $1,965 a month.

The 13.1% is the average of 14.8%, 12.6% and 11.9% for positions 1, 2 and 3 in First Page Sage's 2026 study, so where you sit in the three matters less than being in it.

Where the click rate comes from

The share of searchers who click a business in the map top 3 comes from First Page Sage's 2026 click-through study: 14.8% for the first listing, 12.6% for the second and 11.9% for the third, from 3.67 billion Google impressions between March and August 2026. We use the average, 13.1%.

Many sites still quote "44% of searchers click the map". That comes from a 2015 study and measures something different, so we don't use it.

Straight answer

We don't guess your call rate

How many map clicks turn into a call or form depends on your trade, your photos, your reviews and how fast you answer. We'd rather you use your own number than borrow a figure that sounds precise. If you don't know it, that's the first thing worth fixing.

Map leads against paid leads

Every lead the map brings is one you don't pay per click for. Put this page's lead count into the cost per lead calculator to see what those leads would cost through ads, and the marketing budget calculator to see how much budget the map saves you.

Questions

How many people click a business in the Google Maps top 3?

First Page Sage's 2026 study puts it at 14.8% for the first listing, 12.6% for the second and 11.9% for the third. Being anywhere in the three matters more than which spot you hold.

How do I find how many people search for my service?

Google Ads' Keyword Planner is free and shows monthly searches by town. Add up your main searches (the trade, plus its most common jobs) across the towns you serve.

What share of map clicks turn into a call?

It varies by trade and how your listing looks, so the calculator asks for your own number. With call and form tracking set up, you can see exactly how many calls and forms your listing sends.

Is local SEO worth it for a small business?

Work it out with your own numbers above. If the gap is bigger than what you'd spend to close it, it's worth doing. The free scan shows how much of your area you're missing and who's taking it.
